Idaho Southeast Region Fishing Report - 9/10/2008
#1
This report highlights a few of the best places to fish, what anglers are using and what they are catching. The information is compiled from regional Fish and Game fishery managers, local tackle shops and anglers.

Pleasant fishing weather has moved into the Southeast Region, and the fishing has been good.

Hot spots include Twenty-four Mile, Daniels and Springfield reservoirs. Fishing is good with hare's ears, damsel flies and green apples. Most of the smaller lakes are good for bluegill and crappie, and the rivers and streams good for trout.

Chesterfield Reservoir remains good, gold and brown leeches are working well.

The irrigation season is winding down, and the water level is dropping at several reservoirs. Bass fishing has been decent on Devils, Twin Lakes, Glendale and Condie reservoirs, and plenty of small smallmouth bass are being caught on the Snake River.

To catch the big bass in Weston Creek Reservoir anglers have to get down below the little ones. This is a no-motors reservoir.

American Falls Reservoir is very low. The only boat ramp available to launch a boat is near the dam and siltation on the ramp can make it difficult.

Grasshoppers are working in most streams and rivers.

The Portneuf River is low and clear fish are spooky, but Black Canyon of the Bear River is mossy.

The Upper Blackfoot River, on the other hand is worth the trip for the scenery alone, to say nothing of the fishing. The upper Blackfoot opened for catch-and-release fishing for cutthroat trout this summer. The cutthroat spawning run out of the reservoir was about 540 cutthroat trout - the biggest run since 2003 and should provide for some exciting fishing this year.

The Snake River below the American Falls Dam is pretty good, but not so good at the Tilden Bridge.
